Eligibility
Domestic Students
- All undergraduate students, and graduate students without an assistantship, who are registered for 5 credit hours or more at Iowa State University, are eligible to enroll in the ISU Student & Scholar Insurance Plans.
- Note: Audited courses do not count toward your eligibility.
- Eligible students may also enroll their spouse/domestic partner and dependent children.
- The medical coverage will be cancelled if a student does not remain in classes for the first 31 days of the semester or drops below the required 5 credit hours*. The student will be responsible for any services received during this time
*If a student drops below the required 5 credit hours, medical coverage will expire on the last day of the month in which the credit hours dropped
International Students
- All international students who are registered for at least 1 credit hour at Iowa State University (except for those only in audited courses or distance ed) are automatically enrolled in the ISU Student & Scholar Health Insurance Plan.
- International students are required to enroll their spouse/domestic partner and dependent children who have traveled with them to the United States.
- Enrollment for a spouse or child(ren) must be completed within 31 days of their arrival at ISU. Their Coverage start date will be on the 1st of the month in which they arrive to the US.
- This coverage is mandatory: https://www.registrar.iastate.edu/fees/glossary-of-fees#ins
- WHY?
- ISU is not able to monitor outside Insurance policies for continuation of coverage. Off Campus Insurance lacks the medical evacuation and repatriation coverage we require for International Students.
